Jonathan Wade (b.1973, Hitchin, UK) is an artist-maker based in Glasgow, Scotland. Wade’s practice has two areas of focus – a sculptural practice led by investigations relating to objects and experiences found in nature, relating to growth, decay, accumulation and erosion.
The second area is a utilitarian pottery practice, Ingot Objects, begun in 2020, through which Wade has pursued his interest in self-gathered local materials – native clays, plant ashes and other natural minerals.
Both areas are concerned with investigations of the material qualities of clays, control and expression in making, interaction between clay ‘bodies’ and glazes, and the transformative nature of the ceramic process.
Wade graduated from Bath College of Higher Education (1993 – 96) and later, the Royal College of Art (2011 – 13). He has been in studio practice since 2003.
His work has been exhibited in Earth Matters (Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh 2026) Bardware (Bard, Edinburgh 2025), Masterpiece Art Fair (London 2022), Collect (London 2019), PAD (London 2019), NCECA (Minneapolis, USA 2019), and collected by various private national and international collections.A recipient of the Visual Craft Maker Award (2025), and Inches Carr Craft Award (2022), Wade is a partner at Glasgow Ceramics Studio and is represented in the UK by Adrian Sassoon, Contemporary Applied Arts and Bard.
