FAQS

We Are Here Scotland is a Community Interest Company creating spaces and working with Black and Global Majority people in Scotland's creative industries.
From visual arts to music, dance, poetry, photography and beyond, our community's stories deserve to be heard, celebrated, and properly supported. Black and Global Majority creatives working across Scotland's creative industries remain significantly underrepresented, and that has to change.
We create platforms and opportunities for our community through professional development, advocacy, mentoring, showcases, workshops, and public events. Whether you're an established creative or just starting out, we want this space to offer community, connection, and inspiration, whilst building a legacy of equality and representation for future generations. This includes supporting intersectionally within our community.

We Are Here Scotland is a registered Community Interest Company founded in January 2020.
The organisation is led by a two-person core team:
Ica Headlam — Founder/Director
Halina Rifai — Communications and Projects Manager
Alongside our core team, we work with a trusted network of experienced industry freelancers across Scotland to deliver projects, programmes, and events when needed.

For us support should be more than appreciation. It means showing up, sharing power and resources, and advocating for Black and Global majority–led work, and committing to working relationships that are ethical, reciprocal, and properly funded.
-
At present we unfortunately don’t have the capacity to employ additional team members, but from time to time we collaborate with freelancers on specific projects. When opportunities arise, we reach out directly or share details publicly with our community.

Yes, we are open to collaborating with other organisations. However, we are of the view that we'd like to work with organisations that share our mandate, values and principles and are challenging inequalities within the creative industries.
Please Note: due to the size of our team, we do have to prioritise our up-and-coming projects and events, therefore we won't always be available for collaborative projects, so we would need notice in advance if an organisation or individual wants to work with us.
