MENTORING

Saber will be mentored by:

  • Elaine Cheng 鄭依玲 (she/her) is a composer/sound artist from Edinburgh, Scotland and from Hong Kong descent. Her practice is based around producing drone music from analog and modular synthesisers and has come from a compositional background in electroacoustic music. Elaine has also explored free improvisation as a compositional tool in her work and since 2023 has re-engaged with notated composition. She has released music with NX Records, Ting Shuo Hear Say and The Lumen Lake. Her music has been played on various independent radio shows as well as BBC Radio 3 and NTS Radio.

SABER BAMATRAF

Saber Bamatraf is a Yemeni musician and creative practitioner based in Edinburgh. Self-taught, he began his public artistic practice during the war in Yemen, in parallel with his work in the humanitarian sector, using music as a space for expression and resilience. After relocating to Scotland as an artist at risk in 2020, he has continued developing his practice through performances, cultural projects, and advocacy for artistic and cultural rights. Saber is currently pursuing a Master’s in Music Composition at the University of Edinburgh.
